Chicago Visitor Centers

  • Information, maps, tickets, etc.
  • Two locations on Michigan Avenue
    • Water Works Visitor Center: right across the street from the Water Tower
    • Chicago Cultural Center Visitor Information Center: on Michigan and Randolph

Adler Planetarium After Dark

  • Special event on Aug. 16th: Explore the planetarium from 6:30 to 10:30 pm
  • All guests must be 21 and up
  • Cash bar and full cafe menu is available
  • 1300 S Lake Shore Dr., Museum Campus close to Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium
  • Admission: $17 ($12 students), advanced ticket purchase $12 ($9 students)

Art Institute

  • Renowned art museum, world’s most notable collection of Impressionist art
  • Special Exhibit: Roy Lichtenstein: A Retrospective
  • Open until 8 pm on Thursdays
  • 111 South Michigan Avenue
  • Admission: $18 ($12 Student/Senior/Youth 14-High School; free for Children under 14)

Millennium Park

  • Public park located along Michigan Avenue
  • Attractions: Cloud Gate “The Bean”, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Crown Fountain, Lurie Garden
  • Free admission

Architectural boat tour River/Lake

  • Chicago Architecture Foundation/Chicago’s First Lady
    • 90 minute architectural tour on the Chicago River
    • Start at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm
    • Dock at SE corner of Michigan Ave Bridge
    • $38 per person ($35 advanced purchase)

Michigan Avenue

  • Stroll along the “Magnificent Mile” from the Art Institute to the Hancock Tower
  • Attractions (south to north): Art Institute, Grant Park, Millennium Park, Chicago River, Wrigley Building, Water Tower, Hancock Tower, Shops, Shops, Shops …

Hancock Tower

  • Beautiful views along Michigan Avenue, the lakefront, and across the lake (on nice days)
  • Directly located on northern part of Michigan Avenue
  • John Hancock Observatory
    • Open until 11:00 pm
    • Admission: $17.50 ($11.50 Youth 3-11; Children under 3 free)

  • Signature Room on 95th/96th floor
    • Bar/Restaurant with the same spectacular views
    • Admission free, pay a little premium for food and/or drinks
    • Entrance on the south side of the building, take designated elevator to “Signature Room”

Sears/Willis Tower

  • Still the tallest building in the US
  • Excellent views over the vast Chicago suburbs - especially at sunset
  • Thrilling glass floor balconies
  • Open until 10:00 pm
  • 233 S. Wacker Dr.; enter Skydeck on Jackson Blvd. (south side of building)
  • Admission: $17.50 ($11.00 Youth 3-11; Children under 3 free)
